May 2024 World Cup Digest
This edition covers:
When Will 2026 Tickets Go On Sale
We’ve received a few emails from people inquiring about availability of tickets, if they’ll go on sale after Copa 2024 (hosted in America) so thought we’d start this edition on this topic.
While only FIFA will know with full confidence on plans, it’s worth noting that previous tournaments that took place in June/July had tickets go on sale around August/September the year before (i.e. 2025) with the draw in December. This seems like a safe bet to expect similar timing, especially with FIFA still posting jobs on their site for ticketing roles!
That said, a reminder that luxury package providers like Roadtrips (mentioned last newsletter) are already allocating space in their programs for fans.
If you’re interested in Roadtrips 2026 World Cup packages as an option, send a message and we can make an introduction.
FIFA Signs Aramco As Sponsor
Quoting Łukasz Bączek on X: Aramco becomes Major Worldwide Partner of FIFA, with rights across multiple events including FIFA World Cup 26™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™. The value of the Aramco deal was not disclosed but is likely the richest ever for FIFA by average annual value. According to previous leaks, the contract is to be worth $100m per year.

Concerns Over Visa Processing Times to Enter USA
The Athletic dropped a bomb of an article on April 26th that instilled fear into many foreigners interested in visiting USA for the World Cup in regards to visa processing times.
To combat this, The United States Congress is supposedly investing US$50 million to reduce visa wait times for international visitors ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
If you don’t pay for The Athletic, no worries, we wrote a summary on the site but definitely recommend reading The Athletic if you get the chance.
San Franciso Bid Under Scrutiny
You can’t host a global sporting event, especially the World Cup, without scrutiny. The San Francisco chronicle writes that San Francisco 49ers owner, Al Guido “…may have violated state clean-government laws in World Cup negotiations”. Read a summary from the Sports Business Journal.
University of Tennessee Leading Grass Innovations for Matches
As temporary grass installations are key to ensure all fields have adequate grass for matches at the World Cup, we found out that this effort is led by University of Tennessee professor John Sorochan and a team experienced in sports turf management. Give this article from The Inquirer a read to explore the innovative strategies and challenges in preparing ideal playing surfaces across the varied venues.
USA / Mexico Remove Bid for 2027; Focus on 2031
In somewhat of a shock announcement, the joint USA and Mexico bid for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 has been removed from consideration for the announcement in May 2024.
This leaves two bids remaining: Brazil or German/Netherlands/Belgium.

This TikTok has made the rounds and for good reason. This guy discusses how he took planes and trains, had a place to sleep, got a ticket to Man City vs Real Madrid and only spent £228! We obviously can’t expect that type of affordability to occur in 2026 World Cup!
