👋 We’re back in your inbox with the monthly recap of World Cup content!

It’s been a very busy 4-5 weeks in World Cup news (tickets, anyone?!). I’ve also personally been busy, speaking with NBC, CBC + a radio station in San Francisco about the ins and outs of 2026. Reach out if you have a project you’d like to collaborate on.

General Tickets Phase Starts September 10th!

FINALLY we know the start of the general ticket sales for World Cup 2026!

FIFA made a couple announcements in July and both were massive; though the second was mostly a clarification of open questions from the first. Here’s the key bullet points:

  • Phase 1 “starts” on Sept 10th

  • Sept 10th to Sept 19th is a “register your interest to participate” window

  • FIFA will then randomly select fans from the pool of people who registered their interest. Selected fans can then participate in purchasing.

  • Each fan with the “golden invitation ticket” will be assigned a day and time window (supposedly in October) where he/she can login and purchase tickets.

  • This 1st phase is only for those with a VISA card (a main FIFA sponsor)

Registering your interest and purchasing will take place at FIFA.com/tickets.

And no, pricing was not part of their announcements, but a reminder that FIFA will supposedly utilize dynamic pricing. If you’re wondering how much tickets were for other World Cups, read the article here that details each tournament, category and round since 1994.

Who will receive the golden invitation ticket in Phase 1?

World Cup Draw is in Las Vegas

If you even made it past the ticketing news, you may be asking yourself wait, if tickets can be purchased in October, will we even know what teams will be playing when and where?

Nope, you sure won’t! So how the hell does this work?

Phase 1 always occurs before the World Cup Draw and you essentially request tickets based on host city and date. You want to go no matter what. Almost all of my tickets secured have come from this phase.

If you only want to purchase tickets where you know the teams playing, you will need to wait until December 5th because that’s when the World Cup Draw will occur. And it is all but formally confirmed this will be in Las Vegas! The second sales phase typically occurs very soon after the draw.

FIFA, corporations, high profile celebrities / athletes / government officials, “Sin City” and people looking to make deals - what could possibly go wrong? There’s always conspiracies about the Draw and I can’t wait to see the entertainment unfold.

Hospitality Single Match Tickets

Surprise! More July ticket news!

The FAQ section within On Location’s site previously stated Single Match Tickets were not for sale (at the time). Well, that restricted time has come to an end. Fans can go online RIGHT NOW and purchase hospitality tickets to individual matches.

That’s right, you can skip the line and get a hospitality ticket to a single match! There’s a caveat though, not all matches are currently for sale in the Single Ticket component. For example, the host nations and other popular nations (think Brazil, Argentina, etc) and many knockout rounds, etc cannot be purchased.

You can always purchase other packages though or use the “Right to Buy” options on FIFA+.

Reminder: don’t be fooled by the tickets on sites like Stubhub, Viagogo, etc. Those are not official suppliers.

Finding On Location Approved Sales Agents

For Corporations or groups looking for Private Suites or if you just want to talk to a human in you area, On Location has a site that lists their “official suppliers” of tickets.

Here’s the list of (growing?) approved sales agents. It’s buried in their FAQs. I have spoken with a number of individuals who have had successful conversations with the reps listed here (which is mostly MLS teams).

Roadtrips published a Most Popular Matches for 2026 in an email based on their data of assisting fans from around the world plan their dream trip. Given the fact the matchups aren’t known yet, it isn’t too surprising of a list but I was personally surprised not to see a semi-final match listed below. Expect these matches to have similar high demand in Phase 1 on FIFA’s site for tickets.

Local Businesses: Become An Official FIFA Licensee

FIFA posted that local businesses who are interested in becoming official licensees of World Cup 2026 gear can apply to do so via this form. As the form says If approved, the licensee will be able to produce and sell locally/culturally relevant products that incorporate FWC26 Host City marks.

I know there’s some business owners and entrepreneurs in this group so if you’re interested, best of luck!

CanadaRED & Federation World Cup Tickets

Host country Canada announced their newest member platform, CanadaRED. Why does this matter? It’s worth noting that FIFA allocates a small % (7% or 8% if memory serves me correct) to every federation that qualifies. It is then up to the federation to determine appropriate allocation of tickets their members for those team’s matches.

If you aren’t following and scratching your head: If you are looking to secure tickets to watch your specific team play, you may want to look into your federation’s membership. And in the case of Canada, it is this program membership refresh.

Answering Reader Questions

Interested in sending a question? Hit respond directly from your inbox to send a message to submit a question. I’m summarizing & generalizing the topics here:

  1. Are there special requirements to hire a car in the US?

There are some regulations to research. I suggest to start by looking into this article about driving in USA if you are not a citizen.

  2. How do you switch Host Country availability for Hospitality tickets?

In the top left corner of the site, you’ll see a country flag. This is where you can switch between USA, Canada, Mexico. I don’t think it was quite as obvious as it is now but did receive a few questions about it.

  3. Can fans purchase tickets to the World Cup DRAW in Las Vegas?

Honestly, I don’t know. I can see this being an invitation only event but truly don’t know. If anyone has insight, let me know and I’ll keep an eye and post if I find anything.

  4. Can I buy you a drink sometime to thank you?

I created and operate theworldcupguide.com because I genuinely love helping people figure out how to navigate the madness. I save all the messages that come in from readers. I am also incredibly selective on what partnerships/sponsorships to accept on the site and newsletter.

But, if you do feel inclined to contribute to the cause, I set something up to make a donation to “buy me a drink”; though, perhaps I’ll cross paths with a few of you in a year’s time for a drink in person.

  5. Are On Location & FIFA Still Hiring for 2026?

I’ll continue to post links for the jobs FIFA and others post. The positions refresh often:
